It was so nice to see the class try a couple of times, no put downs, everyone suggesting ideas, being helpful so the group could succeed.

Week 5 homework - students should be writing for the Elsie Locke competition. Their Pepeha needs to be complete and learned by heart. Students have maths in their homework book to complete and they have spelling words to learn on Spelling City - 'Life Ed week 1.' All students could be discussing what their personal statistical investigation could be about -this needs planning with data collecting to get underway soon.
Week 5 has been full of discovery in the Life Education Caravan.

4th May Literacy Quiz Group.
On the 4th of May we traveled to Tauranga Intermediate to compete in the literacy Quiz.
We were wowed by Scott's eating habits at McDonalds & the fact he had pre-thought out what he would order and the amount of food & drink he actually got for very little money!
We were also wowed by the difficulty of the actual quiz. Even though the questions were challenging we managed to have fun, yet attempted to answer all questions.

The results showed we had 63 correct out of 100. Considering this was our first time, it was a satisfactory ending to the night and a good result for all the hard work put in with practice questions. We won $5 book vouchers thanks to Alex who won the tie-breaker question "what are the only 2 animals mentioned in a sentence that uses every letter of the alphabet?" Fox & Dog were the answers. We had tons of fun! Written by Lauryn & Madeleine.

Homework
It seems to me that this is a great forum for parents to check up on homework expectations. So I will be advising what is due. Usually this entails incomplete work as well as maths in the homework book.
I will list what is now overdue, if parents/caregivers could check that their student has handed this in, thank you.
* Iditarod Information Report
* Maths page from end of term 1
*Advertisement noted from TV/Radio or page from magazine.
*Descriptive paragraph or two about their bedroom
* Reading a personal novel
*Character doll -this has actually already been marked
*Venn diagram of a character from their novel -at the beginning & the end of the novel.

Week 2 Term 2
Student led discussions on Tuesday. Students have looked at their achievements and where next they need to be learning. The key competencies of self-management, team work and thinking have been looked at. We have used a double bubble to help us analyse.
